Carol service 2016

We concluded the Autumn term with our annual carol service at St Gregory's church.
A beautiful service was ably led by Year 6 with fantastic singing and reading, not just from the soloists, but from the whole school. It was a lovely end to the year and a wonderful start to the Christmas period.

We had an exceptional standard and brilliant range of talent showcased within our annual Summer Concert. As ever, we are very proud of all of the performers, ranging from singers to instrumentalists to dancers. Our school choir and Playtastic orchestra are especially strong and it is delightful to see so many children involved. Thank you for a wonderful evening, with a sample of the highlights added below.

Not to be outdone, Key Stage 1 also showcased their range of talents with singers, dancers, instrumentalists, magicians and many more skills.

Audition Day!

A great day was had by all as our talented children entertained the whole school. This was our preparation for the end of term concert and members of the school council, along with all the staff, had the difficult decision to choose the acts that would go through. As you can see by the photographs the school council took their job very seriously, making notes and discussing their decision.

We now look forward to the results and the concert on July 7th. Watch this space!

Playing their violins and cellos, and the pieces they had learnt in 'Upbeat', Year 3 were a credit to St Gregory's with their performance and behaviour.

Stratford Primary Schools Choral Concert

All of Years 3 and 4 took part in this concert on Wednesday evening, 10th June, at Holy Trinity Church. They joined with three other schools to sing, 'If You're Happy And You Know It Say Amen' and 'Summer' conducted by the musicians from Holy Trinity. On their own they performed 'Naughty' from Matilda which we had prepared in school....... and they were fantastic!

Chinese Music and Dance Workshop

The whole school took part in a fantastic day of Chinese culture with each year group learning a different style of music and dance. It was amazing to see how much could be achieved in such a short time. From the Reception Class and their peacock dance, to Year 6 and their Dragon Dance, everyone did brilliantly but the show at the end of the day was stolen by year 5 and their amazing interpretation of the Lion Dance. They were sharp, full of energy and totally focused on the movements, rhythm and timing of their task!

Drumming Assembly January 2015

This morning, 16th January, the children were treated to a 'Drumming' showcase assembly by Bo Davies, a truly unique (very loud) and inspiring start to the day. Leo from Year 2 was invited up on stage, and even though he confessed to having never drummed before, Bo soon had Leo keeping up a rhythm on some giant drums. It was great to see all the children picking up the different beats and tapping along on their own imaginary drums!

Singing with the African Children's Choir

Twenty five children from the school choir were straight back into the action during the first week of this term, singing with the world famous African Children's Choir at The Artshouse. The children sang 'Nkosi Sikelele' and 'Sing' with the choir, which they had been rehearsing all last half term. They were then able to watch the amazing performance by the African children. Their energy, rhythm, hope and musicality were inspirational.

When we were walking back from the rehearsal, on the Friday afternoon, we met Father Alex in Henley Street. We gave him an impromptu rendition of our songs and brought smiles to the faces of the many pedestrians who stopped to listen!

Autumn Term 2014

This year we have introduced an exciting new music scheme, Charanga. This new scheme will enable the children to not only learn about music but also become musicians who can share and perform using their new skills.

Carol service

The term ended with seven lessons and carols in St Gregory's church. As we have a whole school topic of world war 1 this year we decided to include part of the Christmas Truce in our service. After Mary sang  the first verse of Silent Night, unaccompanied, Years 3 and 5 responded by singing Stille Nacht in German and then everyone else joined in, in English. It was very moving and began what was a beautiful service with fantastic singing and reading, not just from the soloists, but from the whole school. There were so many positive comments from parents and parishioners as to how wonderful and uplifting it was.

Choir members sing to the elderly

Children from Year 6, who are in the choir, went to two old peoples homes to entertain them and persuade them to sing along. The children had also made them laminated coasters, for their tea and coffee, with special messages on.

Mrs Burn and Mrs Ciotowski felt very emotional seeing the faces of some of the residents as the children sang.......the children were fantastic and the residents loved them chatting to them afterwards.

This year KS1 performed the brand new ‘Little Angel Gets Her Wings’ while KS2 brought ‘Scrooge - A Ghost Of A Chance’, a musical based on Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, back to life.

Well done to all who partook and thank you to the amazing body of staff, who all helped to pull it off so wonderfully.

South American Music Workshop

With the help of Freddie Aburto from Caliche we created the sounds of the rainforest, played the pan pipes, created a fantastic drum rhythm and put everything together to perform the South American music of The Andes.

The children were fascinated by all the different instruments made only from natural materials - bamboo, goats hooves, giant seed pods, animal hide - to name but a few!
