Year 6

Welcome to Year 6!

22 incredible pupils, Miss Cole and Mrs Warrender, woven together to make this year's 'Class of 2020/21 Year 6'.

As written in scripture, we are one body together in faith; who are woven as one. In Year 6, we use our many gifts, words of wisdom and God given qualities to support each other with love and compassion; taking every step of the journey hand in hand. Together, we can

love, learn and grow with Jesus.

 

Pupil Profile:

Our Gospel Value for this half term are to be Intentional and Prophetic. 

 Intentional in the way we live and use the resources of the earth, guided by conscience; and prophetic in the example we set to others.

Throughout our time at St. Gregory's, we build upon all of our Gospel Values to equip us for our journey ahead; becoming role model of Christ himself.

Important Information:

 

Homework:

COOL Time (Carrying On Our Learning): For Autumn 1, Year 6's COOL Time activities will be sent home every Friday and need to be completed and returned to school by the following Wednesday. More information and guidance about these activities will be inside your child's COOL Time Book. 

Homework is to be presented to the same standard as expected in class, using pencil for maths and blue pen for english. 

 

Homework Diary: Children must have their homework diary in school every day. Homework will be written in the diary each week and parents are asked to sign diaries each week to acknowledge they have seen the work set and that it has been completed. Diaries will be checked every Wednesday morning by Mrs. Warrender and Miss Cole.

 

Sporting Activities:

Tuesday - Your child will have swimming lessons on a Tuesday afternoon. Kit required. 

Wednesday - Your child will have PE on a Wednesday afternoon. Kit required.

 

Safety:

In Year 6, you may decide as parents that your child is able to walk home from school. For this to be accepted, you must contact the office to give your consent (this can be sent via email or via telephone correspondence). Additionally, you may decide that your child can take their phone into school, for their journey to/from school. All electronical devices must be given to Miss Cole or another adult upon entry to the school building.

Autumn Term

For our first topic, we will be exploring the 'Viscous Vikings'. I am extremely excited to indulge into this topic with you and truly explore the life and tales of the Vikings.

Designing and creating Christmas products using electricity

Conscious Alley - Should Tristan open to box?

We used dance to demonstrate the role of electrical components - it was great fun!

We LOVE our reading for pleasure time each week; finding out about our topics and reading different genres!

Inspired by our book 'The Viewer' the children created restless dream art using charcoal and chalk!

Investigating electrical circuits

Inspired by our Class Saint Pope John Paul II in our class collective worship today. We reflected on what values we want to show inspired by his role model!

The Viewer: To explore Tristan's restless dream, we imagined his experience for ourselves and explored the suspense of fear created by the author.

Within our R.E unit 'celebrations of the Holy Spirit', we explored an art painting looking closely at the meaning behind it and its importance to our faith!

We came together in prayer to start our new academic year!

We showed our amazing team building skills to complete a set of challenges!

Building friendships through our snowball game! We loved this!
